Much speculation has been raised
about the possibility of life on other planets. The Bible is silent
on the subject. That could be because there is no life on other
planets or it could be because life on other planets just isn’t
a “need to know” topic for mankind. Apparently, if such
information were important, God would have addressed it in the Bible.
The Bible is abundantly clear, however, concerning life in the spiritual
world. Heaven (of which the earth is a natural counterpart) is teeming
with redeemed souls born from the time of Adam until the present.
In the spirit realm there are angels and demons, but there is no
mention in the Bible of natural life on other planets. This leaves
us with mere speculation. We need not speculate, however, about
the unique significance of mankind in the scope of God’s creation.
Psalm 8:
Yet You have made him but a
little lower than God [or heavenly beings], and You have
crowned him with glory and honor. (Amplified)
Man has a lofty place with God and in His kingdom. I personally
believe God created the universe to make life on the earth possible
just so He could have a creature capable of experiencing a personal
relationship with Him. God made man to worship Him and to have an
intimate relationship with Him. Angels are mere servants of God,
but redeemed men and women are the sons and daughters of God. God
wanted a family. The sin of mankind threatened this purpose of God,
so He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for humanity. Jesus
came to earth, lived, and died on the cross to pay the penalty for
our sin so that if we chose to believe we would be restored into
right relationship with Him. God the Son--Jesus Christ--is forever
in a resurrected human body. Jesus died for no other creation.
Man is unique. God created mankind to be a special being that He
could live in and manifest Himself through. To make this possible,
God made a place for man to live. Earth, and the universe, which
makes life possible on the earth, are actually a means to an end.
The focus of God’s creation was man. The Bible says that in
the future God will create a new heaven and a new earth filled with
righteousness. We who have been saved have eternal life and shall
never pass away.
2 Peter 3:13:
But we look for new heavens and a new
earth according to His promise, in which righteousness (uprightness,
freedom from sin, and right standing with God) is to abide.
[Isaiah. 65:17; 66:22.]
Those who have accepted Christ will rule and reign with Him forever.
Revelation 22:3:
And there shall be no more curse: but the
throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants
shall serve him:
Revelation 22:4:
And they shall see his face; and his name
shall be in their foreheads.
Revelation 22:5:
And there shall be no night there; and they
need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth
them light: and they shall reign forever and ever.
I personally believe God is not finished creating. He is the Creator,
so that aspect of His nature will continue to manifest. This is
intimated in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 9:6:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son
is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his
name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The
everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:7:
Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his
kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with
justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of
hosts will perform this.
In this prophecy concerning the Lord Jesus, Isaiah states in verse
7 “…of the INCREASE of the government of Jesus Christ
there shall be no end.” This seems to indicate that the kingdom
of Jesus Christ will be ever-expanding. Since one of the eternal
aspects of God is that He is a Creator, He will forever keep creating.
I believe He will fill up the universe with new and different creations.
It is clear that those who know Jesus will rule and reign in this
ever-expanding kingdom. Fun things are ahead! We are in training
for reigning. Our faithfulness now will determine our role in this
coming kingdom.
Since the Bible is silent on the subject of life on other planets,
I can only offer my opinion. I do not believe there is life on other
planets…yet. There is, however, a good possibility there will
be, as we have seen in Isaiah’s prophecy.
Many people claim to have seen UFO’s or had interactions
with aliens. However, once interviewed, they often report things
that contradict what the Bible teaches. I believe in eternity the
universe will be the “playground” of redeemed mankind.
Man may one day find life on other planets, but for now we have
been commissioned by God to “go into all the world”
of the planet Earth and proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord!
